Vikings hit stride

-

The Porirua Vikings roared into second place in the Wellington club rugby league standings with an emphatic 38- 8 win over Upper Hutt on Saturday.

They were only ahead 12-8 at the half, after playing into a stiff breeze at Ascot Park, but ran in five tries in the second spell. Jon Masaga was awarded man of the match as he helped his forward pack lay a platform to secure the win.

Anton Wereta and Jarrod Mcdonald also crossed the line in the romp.

St George, meanwhile, stayed with Te Aroha for much of their match but crucial errors and a late surge from the reigning premiers got them home 32-20.

The results sees Porirua a single point behind the unbeaten Wainuiomata, while St George remain on the foot of the table. The Dragons play University at Kelburn on Saturday, while the Vikings go to Te Whiti Park to take on Te Aroha.
