Raffle scam warning

-

Porirua businesses are warned to be wary of a woman selling raffle tickets, claiming she is fundraising for her daughter’s sports trip.

Philip Leung, owner of the Megabite lunch bar in Elsdon, contacted Kapi-mana News last week to say he had been scammed by the woman.

She was supposedly selling ‘‘ lucky number cards’’ as a fundraiser for her daughter’s taekwondo trip, the winning numbers being determined by the national Lotto results. When Mr Leung’s numbers were drawn he contacted the number provided to claim his prize – but a man answered, knowing nothing about the promotion.

The woman, who gave her name as Liz or Lyn, was Maori, fairskinned, in her early 30s about 1.6m tall, and may be driving a silver Falcon, said Mr Leung.
