Ready for the ragga?
The international Raggamuffin festival brings the sweet sounds of roots and reggae to Te Rauparaha Arena at Porirua next month.
Fiji, J-boog, Hot Rain and Spawnbreezie are all on the June 2 bill – playing their third show of five in the inaugural Raggamuffin Roadtrip. The lineup also includes Morgan Heritage’s own Peetah Morgan, and New Zealand artists Sons of Zion and Soljah.
The Raggamuffin festival tours Australia, but usually limits its Kiwi presence to a single day at Rotorua. However, this year fans from Greater Wellington and other New Zealand centres will have a chance to soak up some good vibrations at the mini-festival.
Each show will feature a local act, selected by fans.
‘‘We want to encourage up-and-coming acts wherever possible, they may be future Raggamuffin stars,’’ festival director Jackie Sanders says.
On Facebook, 53 per cent of Wellington fans voted for Hutt Valley band Oku Rootz.
They are excited to rub shoulders with J-boog and Spawnbreezie who they listened to growing up.
General admission tickets start at $59 and gates open 4pm at Te Rauparaha arena, June 2.
