Porirua teen’s Origin moment

- By KRIS DANDO

There will be a Porirua connection at tomorrow night’s State of Origin clash in Melbourne.

Braydon Mcmahon will be playing at five- eighth for Queensland U-6s as they take on their NSW counterparts in the curtain-raiser for State of Origin I at Etihad Stadium.

A former Rangikura School pupil, Mcmahon grew up playing for the Porirua Vikings.

He attends Keebra Park State High School, one of the top rugby league schools on the Gold Coast, with alumni including Benji Marshall, Greg Eastwood and Corey Norman.

Mcmahon is contracted with the Gold Coast Titans for the next two years.

His mother Maria, who was heavily involved with the Vikings in the 2000s, says her son faces the ‘‘game of his life- time’’, which his parents will be watching from the stands.

‘‘He works hard, training, playing and studying six days a week, rising at 5am in the morning. It’s all paid off and we [she and husband Denis] will be in the crowd supporting him, we couldn’t be prouder.’’
