Roundabout need

-

Editor,

I was not surprised that the Omapere-Postgate intersection in Whitby was featured in the article ‘‘Motorist muddling old and new rules’’ ( KMN, May 29). If there was one intersection that could really do with a roundabout it is that intersection. There appears to be sufficient room to put one in. It would not only slow down the traffic heading up Postgate Dr , but because motorists would be slowed down at Omapere St, it may discourage people from using this route as a short-cut from State Highway 58 to avoid the Paremata roundabout. PATRICK ATWOOD, Whitby.

Mayor Nick Leggett then telephoned me and said that if people wanted to keep their libraries they should let him know. So, people, if you want your libraries to stay open, you need to e-mail NLeggett@pcc.govt.nz; write to PCC PO Box 50-218, Porirua 5240; or phone 237 5089.

If we don’t take a stand we will lose important things like our libraries. Once closed they will be gone for good. Remember ‘‘Evil only triumphs when good people do nothing.’’

JEANETTE ERCEG, Pukerua Bay. The council is now proposing the closure of just Plimmerton library - Editor. but it is not given to anyone else.

I cannot understand why people put up with being disturbed. It is your right to live in peace and not be disturbed to the point were it wakes you or your family.

Please use this service. Let’s face it, we don’t get a lot for our money for our rates, etc.

It does help and you do not need to put up with others’ lack of consideration. N O’BRIEN, Tawa.

There is a difference between being vocal and getting a headline, and learning how to be an effective advocate.

For my part, well done Fa’afoi. I’m not the school inspector but if I was you would get a good pass mark. KEN DOUGLAS, western ward

councillor. charge over ratepayers covered by that council. However . . . if PCC use this facility, Porirua ratepayers will be liable to meet loans made to Christchurch and Auckland councils to name just two.

3. Instead of using cash and reserves to fund infrastructure replacement and improvements, council has allocated these funds to the city re-development, associated purchase of land and buildings, and new council head office building.

For GWRC, Porirua ratepayers are guaranteeing loans for infrastructure replacement and improvements. The loans raised by PCC are really to fund property development and speculation.

4. If the city re-development [plans], don’t proceed, PCC can repay nearly all loans, and/or undertake more infrastructure replacement and improvements, and/or freeze or even reduce rates, and/or not cut services and increase charges. ANDREW WELLUM, Camborne.
