Clinic for car seats
Mana Parents Centre will hold a car seat checking clinic in the Porirua New World car park this week to highlight the risks of improper car restraint installation.
Members will be on hand from 10am till 1.30pm on Thursday. A recent checking clinic showed that more than 80 per cent of child car seats were installed incorrectly, Parents Centre chief executive Viv Gurrey said.
‘‘It’s unnecessarily putting our children, our tamariki, at risk.
‘‘This clinic will help to educate on the importance of correct car seat installation by skilled technicians. There will be information available and lots of spot prizes.’’
The check is one of many events through the country to mark Parents Centre’s awareness week. The organisation was established 54 years ago as a support service for parents. The Mana group is one of 51 chapters.
Centre president Rebekah Procter is proud of the Mana group’s achievements.
‘‘At Mana Parents Centre our expertly facilitated Childbirth Education Classes are in high demand but that’s not all we do.
‘‘We have a range of parent education programmes focusing on children up to six years of age.
‘‘We also run a range of other classes, such as toilet training and CPR for children. Parents can inquire on our website for the timetable of events for the year.’’
