Infinite’s summer lovin’

- By AMY JACKMAN

Infinite Dance Crew is hoping to burn the quarter- mile and spend summer nights at the hiphop world championships in the Netherlands in October.

Infinite won the HipHop Unite National title earlier this month and were selected to represent New Zealand at the world championships for the third time.

To fundraise part of the $40,000 needed to get to Europe, the crew is staging Grease.

Tawa’s Kirsten Ocampo joined Infinite this year and is excited about competing in Europe.

‘‘ It’s a huge tunity,’’ she said.

Choreographer Libby Calder said choosing to do Grease for the crew’s fundraiser was easy.

‘‘We wanted to do a concert and we wanted to tell a story, rather than just showcasing dance after dance.

‘‘We all already loved the movie and thought it would be a fun show to put on.’’

Infinite has put a modern twist on the show with all- new choreography using different forms of modern dance.

‘‘It was quite fun changing it into a modern story,’’ Calder said.

‘‘We have kept elements of the 50s with the skirts and things but we have definitely put in a lot of modern dance, hip- hop especially.’’
