The troupe was evicted from its Whitehouse Rd building on August 17 because of severe water damage. The troupe has moved temporarily to 4 Lydney Pl and hopes to remain there into 2013, while the theatre’s future is determined.
The public gallery was packed for the first part of the November 22 committee meeting and Little Theatre president Sandy Brewer appealed to councillors not to write off the troupe’s Titahi Bay headquarters.
‘‘We understand there will be discussion in public- excluded business so we can’t respond about the future of our building,’’ she said.
‘‘Even without knowledge of the new report to council, we want you to understand that we are committed to the building in Titahi Bay. It is in disrepair but we are yet to see what explora- tory work is being done to repair it. We do not agree with the report in August to have the structure demolished. We believe this would be imprudent.’’
Ms Brewer said the group could continue without the building but they had used it since the 1970s and considered it their home.
Council chief executive Gary Simpson would say only that ‘‘ technical advice’’ was being delivered to councillors, requiring the item to be presented as non-public business.
