Club to host Noelex nats

-

Plimmerton Boating Club is hosting the 2013 Noelex 22 and Ross 780 national contests this week.

The Noelex race will feature a fleet of more than 20 boats from throughout the country, including 11 from the host club, and a dozen boats are expected to comprise the Ross 780 fleet.

Plimmerton Boating Club will be buzzing tomorrow, says its manager Sandra McGill, with the measuring and briefing, followed by an invitation race in the evening. Following this will be three days of full-on racing over February 7, 8 and 9, with three races each day.

With Mana Island the backdrop of the sailing area, and opening on to Cook Strait, Ms McGill says these are some of the best sailing waters in Wellington, supported by a healthy club, a clubhouse with magnificent views and fantastic launching and rigging facilities.

‘‘The club welcomes all visitors interested in yachting to take advantage of the club’s location. Plenty of accommodation is available in the immediate area, the railway station is nearby and it is a short trip to Porirua for shopping or to Wellington City or the Kapiti Coast for exploring or more adventurous activities.’’

Contestants, friends and families are welcome to use the facilities. See www.plimmertonboatingclub.org.nz and www.yachtingnz.org.nz. Phone Sandra McGill on 233 1592 or email manager@ plimmertonboatingclub.org.nz.
