Cheap road repairs

-

Editor,

At the risk of councillor Anita Baker accusing me of getting on to my hobby horse again, I notice the coast end of Spinnaker Dr is once again being repaired and resealed.

Within 12 months of the cheap and nasty coarse-chip seal being laid, the surface on the two sharp corners was stressed, stripped of chip and starting to break up.

PCC has finally seen the light and is resealing using the more durable, quieter, smoother, albeit more expensive, hot mix on the corners in question.

The rest remains in the cheap and nasty stuff so we have a patchwork quilt to match the rest of Whitby.

The cheap roading materials applied under the excuse of keeping rates down represents false economy as we are effectively paying for the job twice in a relatively short period of time.

Surely now she and Peter Bailey (the council’s general manager responsible) can see our point?
