Kapi-Mana News is a key source for Porirua City Council to get its information out, according to the annual residents’ survey.
Of the 401 residents asked where they prefer to find out about city council activities, events and information, 79 per cent said newspapers.
Over the past 12 months, twothirds have read the City Focus supplement, which features in this newspaper each month.
Council communications and marketing manager Barbara Bercic said she viewed newspapers as ‘‘partners’’ and a vital tool to help engage with the community.
‘‘We know Kapi-Mana News is much-loved and while you report the news, you are championing events and positive things that are happening in the city.
‘‘There are other mediums out there, of course, but I don’t see us replacing those existing channels in the foreseeable future,’’ she said.
The other main avenues for council information noted in the survey were the council’s website (35 per cent), newsletters (34 per cent), radio (28 per cent) and social media, such as Facebook and Twitter (18 per cent).
