An offer too good for cyclists to pass up

-

Got a bike that’s in need of some love and care to get it back on the road?

The Mana Cycle Group’s popular free ‘‘bike fix-it’’ day is on again on Saturday.

The event will be held in the MegaCentre, outside Pack & Pedal, from 10am till 2pm.

Mana Cycle Group president Rob MacIntyre said a lot of bikes sat in garages not being ridden because they needed a bit of basic attention.

‘‘ We want to get people out riding those bikes because there are heaps of fun places to ride them around Porirua and Tawa.

‘‘ Summer, and great cycling weather, is nearly here,’’ he said.

‘‘Last year we fixed more than 50 bikes. The most common issues were rusty chains and problems with gears.’’

At the bike fix- it, bike specialists will check bikes for free, giving them a tune-up and doing basic repairs, such as mending punctures, and fixing cables and brake pads.

When parts are needed, the group has heavily discounted cables, brakes and tubes through Pack & Pedal.

Advice will also be given on bike maintenance.

Mr MacIntyre said the cycle group existed to increase cycling opportunities in the Mana region.

‘‘We have got big plans, including a mountainbike park on Colonial Knob, which will add even more exiting cycling tracks for all bike riders.’’
