Baker earns writing post

-

Whitireia tutor and editor Hinemoana Baker has been named the next Writer in Residence at Victoria University’s institute of modern letters.

Since graduating in 1995 with a bachelor of arts degree, Ms Baker has written many poems, essays, children’s stories, songs and stage plays, and her work has been widely published.

During 2013, as well as continuing her creative writing, she had three part-time jobs, including being editor of 4th floor, the Whitireia creative writing programme literary journal.

She is also a tutor for online students of the creative writing programme.

Next year she will give up paid employment to take full advantage of the opportunity to write at Victoria University. She said she intended to work on a family research project and another book of poems.

A regular swimmer at the Porirua Aquatic Centre, Ms Baker is pleased her office at the university will allow her easy access to the recreation centre next door.
