School goes Sunsmart

-

The sun came out from behind the clouds as Titahi Bay School became accredited with the Cancer Society’s SunSmart Schools programme earlier this month.

With the Cancer Society backing the last part of the accreditation – bucket hats for every child – the school has now shown commitment to protecting students, staff and parents from UV radiation.

School principal Kerry Delaney said the hats would stay at school.

‘‘ Our sun policy means we can’t let children outside to play in terms 1 and 4. Now everyone will have a hat.’’

Some hats were donated by a parent, and Ms Delaney also scoured secondhand shops for hats – a big task with 412 students at the school.
