Family shares monarch magic

- By KRIS DANDO

Ursula Baldwin is chuffed with her monarchy butterfly successes.

The Titahi Bay mother had 60 chrysalises on a tower in her front porch for a fortnight and last week she and her family got to see the fruits of their labours.

By last Thursday, just two were to hatch and two had died.

‘‘ We had a whole heap [ on Tuesday], it was really spectacular,’’ she said. ‘‘ I’m really happy with the way it’s all gone.

‘‘One had a damaged wing and I kept finding him on the ground, and a few others have hung around the garden.’’

Overcast weather earlier in the week meant some monarchs were slow to get going.
