Mystery beauty steps forward
The puzzle of the mysterious beauty queens has been solved.
In our February 4 edition we ran a photo of four junior beauty queens from a 1977 competition.
New Zealand Housing employee Natalie Taukamo said she walked past the Kapi- Mana News office every day but did not realise we were looking for her.
‘‘My dad called, laughing,’’ she said.
Ms Taukamo was 9 years old at the time of the pageant, and said she remembered her mother telling her she walked like a boy.
‘‘Apparently I was walking with arms folded instead of like a lady.’’
She decided to reveal herself despite enjoying the mystery.
‘‘ I like the idea of being a mystery woman.’’
The others in the Miss Porirua Shopping Centre Contest were Amanda Mulholland, Melise Bovis and Janine Holcroft.
