First Buggy Fit class

- By RHIANNON MCCONNELL

A 1998 photo of prams and mothers stirred a lot of interest on the KapiMana News Facebook page last week.

The photo turned out to be of the first Buggy Fit class run by Julie Waimotu.

The idea is now used by Cityfitness gyms around New Zealand.

Mrs Waimotu said she started the class after having her first child.

‘‘I wanted to continue doing it without worrying about who was going to look after him,’’ she said. ‘‘It sort of skyrocketed.’’

Mrs Waimotu said the class had about 40 people attend. The mother of three said she has taught with each oher children but as the oldest is now 7, she just fills in for the class these days. ‘‘It’s such a good product.’’ Liz Hibberd commented that most of her parents group was there.

‘‘Our parents centre coffee group would go to fitness, then off to a cafe to eat creamcakes.’’

Bindie Hood suggested the group have a reunion.

The Buggy Fit classes are still going at Cityfitness Porirua.
