Healthy fare picking up

- By RHIANNON McCONNELL

There’s a new takeaway truck in town, but this one has one big difference – it only sells healthy food.

Delight Green owner Kush Bhargava said he thought Porirua needed a healthy option.

‘‘People were saying we were lacking something in this area,’’ he said.

‘‘I think it’s important because people have more stress and are eating unhealthy food.

‘‘Many people have health issues and are looking for a light diet.’’

The food truck opened last Monday and is based in the Hartham Place car park.

Mr Bhargava said they offer vegetarian and gluten-free food.

‘‘We won’t have any meat or anything that harms the animals.’’

The Remax real estate agent is also trained in naturopathy.

‘‘My intention was to help in the health industry. In India we were taught to prescribe food.’’

All the profits from Delight Green go straight to the New Zealand Energy forum for researching and building ecohomes.

‘‘The trust focuses on healthy living and healthy food,’’ Mr Bhargava said.

Delight Green sell smoothies, juices, pies and other healthy options, with the main aim to make it affordable, he said.

The Porirua Delight Green is the first in Wellington but Mr Bhargava plans on opening more.

Delight Green employee Grace Surridge said business was picking up.

‘‘People like the idea and they are really interested.’’

The Plimmerton student is studying psychology but decided to work at Green Delight over summer.

‘‘I heard about it and was interested because I really like nutrition and healthy food.’’

Delight Green is open from 8am till 4pm daily.
