Titahi Bay Surf Life Saving Club
Surf lifeguards at Titahi Bay Surf Life Saving Club have had a busy summer at the beach so far. Patrol captain Nick Mulcahy said, “Our surf lifeguards have been very proactive, encouraging people to swim between the red and yellow flags, educating them on rip currents, and rock fishing safety, as well as urging members of the public to stay within their limits.” Conditions at the beach this season have been hazardous for swimmers at times, with a combination of strong winds and plenty of swell. This has resulted in strong rip currents at either end of Titahi Bay, as well as rips moving throughout the beach, particularly during an outgoing tide. While several people have been rescued at Titahi Bay this season, Nick encourages all community members to get out and enjoy the beach safely.
