In­quiry into house fire on­go­ing

Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing their in­ves­ti­ga­tion into what hap­pened be­fore a fa­tal house fire in Ti­tahi Bay on Au­gust 24.

A post- mortem on Kamira Rangi­moeakau, 57, known as Kam Rangi, was com­pleted on Mon­day last week and po­lice are con­sid­er­ing the re­sults, De­tec­tive Se­nior Sergeant Grant Fer­gu­son said.

‘‘At this stage, fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion is re­quired. A full scene ex­am­i­na­tion has been com­pleted and has been able to con­firm that the fire started inside the house.

‘‘The fo­cus of our in­ves­ti­ga­tion re­mains on build­ing a full pic­ture of the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the fire.’’

The fire ser­vice was called to the Di­mock St house shortly be­fore 1am on Au­gust 24. They were alerted by a neigh­bour who heard glass break­ing and shout­ing from inside.

The house was fully en­gulfed in fire by the time of their ar­rival.

Po­lice met Rangi­moeakau’s fam­ily last week to up­date them.
