Petranoff’s turned into a superstar
Petranoff Smith’s 100 kilogram weight loss has inspired others since he became a media sensation last week.

‘‘I have never received so many calls and texts,’’ Smith said.
The Titahi Bay man, now living in Palmerston North, has had people ask him to mentor them and his phone has rung constantly.
‘‘I was amazed by these people I haven’t met. I was really blown away.’’
Smith said he was more encouraged than ever to keep going.
‘‘My main goal is to fight obesity. I didn’t realise how many people were screaming out. I will be there to support any way I can.’’
Smith last year weighed more than 280kg, had leg braces, needed crutches and was facing having his left leg amputated.
Now 188kg, he still has 40kg to lose to reach his goal, but the braces and crutches are gone and he no longer suffers from ulcers.
On November 14, he will walk 5km to honour his brother, who died from cancer last year.
Unaware the story had attracted so much attention, Smith was on his way to the pool when the texts and calls started pouring in.
The story received 134 comments on Stuff.co.nz with most congratulating Smith and saying he was an inspiration.
‘‘ I’m so impressed and feel motivated to get out there myself. Have 30 to lose and thought too hard,’’ one commenter wrote.
Smith’s walk around Porirua will raise money for Mary Potter Hospice and the Child Cancer Foundation.
