Lacquer artwork on show
Chinese lacquer painter Su Xing is bringing a selection of his artwork for an exhibition this month at the Whitireia Porirua campus.
The exhibition is coming to New Zealand with the backing of the Chinese Government.
It is an opportunity to showcase a unique art form in this country as part of a cultural exchange programme.
Su has had his works exhibited in many countries and is widely known in China as a top lacquer painter.
He graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1985 with a major in lacquer painting.
He has won several art literary prizes in China.
Kaye Jujnovich, the arts faculty dean at Whitireia, said that the exhibition was made possible because of strong links Whitireia had with arts universities in Guangdong province, China.
Su works closely with several of those universities in his role as deputy chairman of the Guangzhou Artists Associ- ation and as a visiting professor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
