Voice of an Angel now in Spanish and Portuguese

- By BERNIE GRIFFIN

Angel Domingos was born and bred in Porirua, but she sees the world as her musical oyster.

Guitar in hand, she can travel anywhere.

‘‘Music and song cut through all barriers and languages,’’ she said.

Her journey with music has come relatively late.

She had already raised her own family before she decided to pursue music seriously.

That meant starting at the very bottom – taking guitar lessons so she could write her own songs.

It was a magical road that drew her into the world of studio and radio recordings. She has music in her blood. ‘‘My musical background consisted of growing up in a home with parents who had a love of music.

‘‘My mother was a singer in her younger years and played a variety of instruments and my father loved to sing and played all different types of genres in the house.

‘‘ Growing up with music helped me develop an appreciation of great melodies.’’

Her busy schedule includes a quick trip to Sydney to promote her music on local radio stations before she returns to Porirua to perform at the next Festival of the Elements.

She described her music as a fusion of country, pop and easy listening.

‘‘I have also been introduced to South American music since marrying my Brazilian husband and have developed a love for it. Now I also sing in Spanish and Portuguese.’’

She said her spare time was dedicated to writing more songs.
