North City cricket woes continue

-

North City continue to struggle in Wellington premier cricket, and lost heavily to Hutt District in their two-day match on Saturday.

After being rolled for just 65 in their first innings – Matt Green and Craig Shanks were the only batsmen to register double figures.

Hutt District declared at 165-6.

Norths fared better in their second dig, making 221 in 61.1 overs.

Opening bat Green was again to the fore, scoring 61, and Jordan McDermott registered 47.

Dane Hutchinson chipped in with 33 and there was some hitting in the tail.

However, the 122 required to win by Hutt District didn’t prove too onerous and they reached the target in 25.4 overs, for the loss of four wickets.

Hutchinson took 2-9 from six overs.

The result leaves Norths rooted to the bottom of the second- tier Hazlett Trophy standings.

Meanwhile, Tawa teenager Melie Kerr showed her class with 3-19 as the Wellington Blaze shot out Otago Sparks for just 97 in the national Twenty20 final at University Oval in Dunedin.

Wellington reached 98 without loss inside 16 overs.

The 14-year-old legspinner is receiving high praise for her domestic game. Her ambitions to represent New Zealand are gathering momentum.
