Ferns to take on Fiji in Porirua
The Silver Ferns’ road to the 2015 world netball championships in Sydney is officially under way, with warm-up games against Fiji and South Africa lined up.
Waimarama Taumaunu’s squad will take on Fiji at Te Rauparaha Arena on Thursday, July 23, for the Taini Jamison Trophy.
It will be the first time Fiji has played a netball test in New Zealand since the 1999 world championships in Christchurch.
The Silver Ferns will play South Africa in Hamilton on July 26 and 28.
New Zealand teams did not shine in this year’s trans-Tasman ANZ cham- pionship, and the Silver Ferns struggled to even get near Australia last year, suffering a particularly heavy defeat in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games final.
Taumaunu will be looking for some impressive form from her players, as they build towards Sydney, and the match against Fiji will be the first chance they get.
The July 23 game begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at ticketdirect.co.nz.
