Z sta­tions clamp down on crime

Z En­ergy is us­ing the lat­est li­cence plate recog­ni­tion soft­ware to clamp down on crime.

Z’s gen­eral man­ager of retail, Mark Forsyth, said the new tech­nol­ogy had been suc­cess­fully pi­loted and was now be­ing rolled out around New Zealand.

There are three Z sta­tions in the Porirua basin – Mana, Mun­gavin Ave and Tawa.

The soft­ware was the lat­est in a string of sta­teof-the-art se­cu­rity mea­sures, fol­low­ing smoke can­nons, Selec­taDNA mist and an $8 mil­lion dig­i­tal CCTV net­work on ev­ery site, Forsyth said.

‘‘If you steal from Z, any­where in the coun­try, you’re very likely to be caught.’’
