What to do these school hol­i­days

There’s plenty on for chil­dren in the Porirua basin these school hol­i­days.

will host a range of classes cost­ing $10 each for chil­dren aged 5 to 15.

Lovely Let­ter­ing on April 20 from 10am till 11.30am and 1pm till 2.30pm lets chil­dren make 3D let­ters and ex­per­i­ment with styles with pens, ink, col­lage and even let­ter­ing on a light bulb.

Bot­tled Ocean will run on April 21 from 10am till 11.30am and 1pm till 2.30pm. Take along your re­cy­cled plas­tic bot­tles and make a waka that floats, a jelly fish and fu­tur­is­tic sharks, fish and other sea crea­tures.

Poppy Mak­ing takes place on April 22 from 10am till 11.30am and 1pm till 2.30pm.

There’s also a free art-mak­ing ac­tiv­ity in the gallery for all ages on April 28 from 10am till 11.30am and 1pm till 2pm.

The li­braries are gear­ing up to host a Ro­bot Rum­pus.

will host Read Like a Ro­bot – sto­ries and craft on April 20, 21, 27, 28, at 1.30pm.

Can­nons Creek Li­brary

will host Ro­bot-themed Tod­dler Time on April 22 and 29, at 10.30am. Through­out hol­i­days, Whitby Li­brary will also host Some­thing’s Fishy ac­tiv­i­ties.

Tawa Com­mu­nity Cen­tre

has zen­doole and colour­ing work­shop for chil­dren 7 and over on April 20 from 10am till 2pm – $15 a child. Price in­cludes a work­book, ma­te­ri­als, framed art­work and a healthy snack and drink. Call 021 134 7541.

First Aid with St John will be held at the com­mu­nity cen­tre on April 27, from 10am. Emer­gency Aware, for 5 to 7-year-olds, will teach chil­dren to un­der­stand the roles of each emer­gency ser­vice and dis­cuss the 111 phone sys­tem.

The Emer­gency Ready class, for 7-9-year-olds, will cover the ser­vices in more de­tail along with prac­tice call­ing 111, and some ba­sic first aid train­ing.

The cen­tre will also host a school hol­i­day drop-in each day be­tween 10am and 1pm with ta­ble ten­nis and games.

Chil­dren will need an adult with them be­cause the drop-in is not su­per­vised.

will have var­i­ous big in­flat­a­bles each day from 11.30am till 3.30pm.
