What to do these school holidays
There’s plenty on for children in the Porirua basin these school holidays.
will host a range of classes costing $10 each for children aged 5 to 15.
Lovely Lettering on April 20 from 10am till 11.30am and 1pm till 2.30pm lets children make 3D letters and experiment with styles with pens, ink, collage and even lettering on a light bulb.
Bottled Ocean will run on April 21 from 10am till 11.30am and 1pm till 2.30pm. Take along your recycled plastic bottles and make a waka that floats, a jelly fish and futuristic sharks, fish and other sea creatures.
Poppy Making takes place on April 22 from 10am till 11.30am and 1pm till 2.30pm.
There’s also a free art-making activity in the gallery for all ages on April 28 from 10am till 11.30am and 1pm till 2pm.
The libraries are gearing up to host a Robot Rumpus.

will host Read Like a Robot – stories and craft on April 20, 21, 27, 28, at 1.30pm.
Cannons Creek Library
will host Robot-themed Toddler Time on April 22 and 29, at 10.30am. Throughout holidays, Whitby Library will also host Something’s Fishy activities.
Tawa Community Centre
has zendoole and colouring workshop for children 7 and over on April 20 from 10am till 2pm – $15 a child. Price includes a workbook, materials, framed artwork and a healthy snack and drink. Call 021 134 7541.
First Aid with St John will be held at the community centre on April 27, from 10am. Emergency Aware, for 5 to 7-year-olds, will teach children to understand the roles of each emergency service and discuss the 111 phone system.
The Emergency Ready class, for 7-9-year-olds, will cover the services in more detail along with practice calling 111, and some basic first aid training.
The centre will also host a school holiday drop-in each day between 10am and 1pm with table tennis and games.
Children will need an adult with them because the drop-in is not supervised.
