A fashionable evening at Pataka

-

The fashion world is coming to the city famed for its Pasifika flavour.

The Miromoda Fashion Runway show gives Maori fashion designers the chance to show case their talent and compete for a coveted spot at New Zealand Fashion Week.

The evening of June 25 will be one of glitz and glamour in Porirua, so get a group together, get the glad rags out of the cupboard and prepare to be wowed.

The show will start at 6.30pm and will include cocktails and finger food on arrival and an opportunity to purchase clothing from the designers direct. A limited number of tickets are available from Pataka for $60.

The Miromoda Fashion Design Competition and Runway Show has been running since 2009.

Porirua City Council is hosting the show with its partner Miromoda, the Indigenous Maori Fashion Apparel Board, Porirua Chamber of Commerce, and Pataka.

Eight designers and their models will be chosen to attend the New Zealand Fashion Week, held in Auckland later this year.

The competition for those spots will be held at Pataka before the show and judged by an experienced panel of media and buying experts. The panel will be led by Dame Pieter Stewart, founder of New Zealand Fashion Week.

‘‘The Miromoda competition opens up the chance for fashion designers to tap into the incredible experience of business and industry leaders on a one-on-one basis through the judging panel,’’ she said.

Last month hopeful models vied for places in the Miromoda Fashion Runway Show.

The potential models faced some preliminary hurdles: they couldn’t be too short, and had to be aged 15 to 30.

Designer and judge Bobby Campbell Luke said he was impressed with the talent in Porirua.

International Maori model and winner of New Zealand’s Next Top Model, Danielle Hayes, walked for Miromoda for the first time last year.
