Nominations open for civic awards
It’s time to sing the praises of the super heroes in your communities with nominations now open for the 2016 Civic Awards.
The awards are held yearly to recognise up to five residents for outstanding service to the city. They have been running since 1993, and last year 50 awards were presented to celebrate the city’s 50th anniversary.
In May, mayor Nick Leggett urged the community to recognise volunteers in youth activities, care of elderly, educational services and cultural activities.
‘‘You may know someone that works with children or spends their evenings delivering meals to the elderly. Anyone who does voluntary work that makes our city a better place can be nominated.
Sporting achievements are not eligible, as these are recognised by the Porirua Sports Awards.
Any two residents or two executive officers of any organisation in Porirua can nominate a candidate for the awards.
After nominations close, a council subcommittee meets to consider the nominations against the guideline criteria and puts recommendations to the full Council to confirm the recipients.
Nominations close 4pm, Tuesday, August 9. Visit pcc.govt.nz for more information.
