Sea­son ends for Porirua league sides

Porirua Vik­ings and St Ge­orge Dragons have both ended their re­spec­tive Welling­ton rugby league cam­paigns on a los­ing note.

A hat-trick of tries from the Pe­tone loose for­ward Matt Wanoa re­sulted in Pe­tone Pan­thers pick­ing up a 30-16 win over St Ge­orge at Can­nons Creek Park af­ter the scores had been tied up at 10-10 at half­time.

The first quar­ter be­longed to the home side as they led 10-0 be­fore tir­ing in the sec­ond to al­low Wanoa to seize the gaps and even the scores.

De­spite St Ge­orge bring­ing on four fresh sub­sti­tutes at the start of the sec­ond half, Pe­tone fin­ished their sea­son in style with a com­mand­ing win.

The Dragons end their cam­paign in sev­enth with four wins and 12 losses.

Whiti Te Ra fin­ished their sea­son un­beaten and will play Te Aroha in the semi-fi­nals this week­end. Wainuiomata take on Rand­wick in the other match.

Porirua Vik­ings’ fin­ished up with a 72-6 loss to Univer­sity Hunters at Ian Gal­loway Park on Satur­day. Their three-win, 13-loss record put them eighth, just above last-placed Up­per Hutt Tigers.
