Season ends for Porirua league sides
Porirua Vikings and St George Dragons have both ended their respective Wellington rugby league campaigns on a losing note.
A hat-trick of tries from the Petone loose forward Matt Wanoa resulted in Petone Panthers picking up a 30-16 win over St George at Cannons Creek Park after the scores had been tied up at 10-10 at halftime.
The first quarter belonged to the home side as they led 10-0 before tiring in the second to allow Wanoa to seize the gaps and even the scores.
Despite St George bringing on four fresh substitutes at the start of the second half, Petone finished their season in style with a commanding win.
The Dragons end their campaign in seventh with four wins and 12 losses.
Whiti Te Ra finished their season unbeaten and will play Te Aroha in the semi-finals this weekend. Wainuiomata take on Randwick in the other match.
Porirua Vikings’ finished up with a 72-6 loss to University Hunters at Ian Galloway Park on Saturday. Their three-win, 13-loss record put them eighth, just above last-placed Upper Hutt Tigers.
