This week we highlight the vacancies in state housing in Porirua, P5, and the region, P1.

Kapi-Mana News reporter Virginia Fallon investigated not only which houses were empty, but why. Uncovering the hundreds of homes that are waiting repair, are earthquake prone or about to be sold.

State housing is a vital part of society for those that need help and for the most part Housing NZ, councils and other organisations do a great job.

Yes, 486 empty houses out of thousands isn’t many. But that’s 486 individuals or families in our region who are waiting for a home or are homeless because of the vacancies.

This week we continue our local election coverage with profiles on the 14 candidates, yes 14, in the Eastern ward, P6. They are vying for only four seats.

Voting documents will be delivered from September 16 to 21.

I encourage you to engage with the elections and have your say.
