Titahi Bay Playcentre kids enjoy new deck

- STAFF REPORTER

The children at Titahi Bay Playcentre now have some wonderful new things to discover in their playground after a large upgrade.

Rob, Buzz and Cam from Seymour Construction came into the centre and built a new deck around the sandpit and a fence with colourful perspex shapes to protect the children from the wind, teacher Abbe Holmes said.

‘‘They created a water wall with driftwood our whanau collected from Titahi Bay beach and installed a water pump that accesses our rainwater tank,’’ she said.

‘‘We also have new steps, cupboards and our old ‘rocket ship’ has been jazzed up with windows and a post box.’’

Holmes said the new deck was an instant hit.

Children were running along, looking over the fence, jumping up and down, and checking out the different colours and shapes.

‘‘Then one by one they disappear as they quietly discover the secret opening that lets them slip between the trees.’’

The new playground was already showing signs that it will be well-used and loved, she said.
