She would love to have school at the week­ends as well. We chat with Ella-Ruth.

Ella-Ruth Clif­ford has some pretty big plans.

She re­cently won a Youth award for help­ing other Porirua chil­dren but she’s not stop­ping with that.

With plans to change the world and run­ning for mayor the fu­ture looks bright- and busy- for the pri­mary school pupil.

We sat down with Ella dur­ing her re­cent visit to the mayor’s of­fice to find out some more about her world.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A JOB/ WHERE DO YOU STUDY?

I’m at school be­cause I’m only 10 years old. I go to Titahi Bay School.

WHAT’S THE PEST PART OF YOUR JOB/SCHOOL?

Hav­ing the best teach­ers and prin­ci­pal in New Zealand and be­ing a buddy pa­trol leader.

WHAT’S THE WORST?

That it’s not be­ing opened on week­ends.

WHAT WOULD PEO­PLE BE SUR­PRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

That I’m learn­ing how to speak khymer.

HOW DO YOU RE­LAX?

By watch­ing youtube videos.

WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU IN THE WEEK­ENDS?

We have fam­ily day on Satur­days so we do things to­gether for the whole day and we go to church on Sun­day.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPE­CIAL TAL­ENTS?

I’m good at act­ing in dra­mas.

IF YOU COULD IN­VITE THREE PEO­PLE TO DIN­NER - LIV­ING OR DEAD- WHO WOULD THEY BE?

My mummy, my daddy and my brother Daniel.

FAVOURITE PLACE IN PORIRUA?

My church, it al­ways makes me feel happy there.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SU­PER POWER WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I’d like to be able to read peo­ple’s minds. That way I can know if they need some­thing but they’re too shy to ask. If I could read their minds I could help them.

WHAT SCARES YOU?

That I know one day my daddy and­mu­mare go­ing to die.

WHOWOULD PLAY YOU IN THE MOVIE ABOUT YOUR LIFE?

I don’t know. I don’t know if any­one can!

WHATWAS YOUR HIGH­LIGHT OF 2016?

Go­ing to my new school and the new house we got. It was fun just smash­ing out the walls and that stuff [ren­o­va­tions].

WHAT THREE THINGS WOULD YOU TAKE IF YOU WERE GO­ING TO BE STRANDED ON A DESERT IS­LAND?

Wa­ter, food and a camel so I can ride it to some­where that isn’t a desert is­land.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM HOL­I­DAY LO­CA­TION?

We are go­ing to go to Cam­bo­dia this Christ­mas to help on a mis­sion trip, that’s enough for me.
