Euon wants to go from the Porirua Basin to the Bee­hive.

Euon Mur­rell has some pretty big plans. The long-stand­ing Porirua City coun­cil­lor has been con­firmed as the Na­tional Party can­di­date for the Mana elec­torate ahead of the vot­ing in Septem­ber. Mur­rell, who un­suc­cess­fully ran for mayor last year, shared a bit about him­self for read­ers. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A JOB?

I amthe Prin­ci­pal at Tommy’s Mana, which is a res­i­den­tial real es­tate com­pany cov­er­ing Porirua City to Pukerua Bay. I’ve also just been se­lected as Na­tional’s can­di­date for the Mana Elec­torate, which means I have a busy but ex­cit­ing few months ahead of me as I work to con­vince ev­ery­one that a Party vote for Na­tional is crit­i­cal for our area’s con­tin­ued suc­cess.

WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?

Meeting peo­ple and as­sist­ing them to solve their prop­erty needs.

It’s an im­por­tant and emo­tional time for many peo­ple and I feel priv­i­leged to be able to as­sist them with their de­ci­sions.

WHAT’S THE WORST?

I think real es­tate agents have a poor rep­u­ta­tion be­cause of how a

Af­ter many years in business and rep­re­sent­ing the area on coun­cil, I am a pretty open book but it might sur­prise some that I only came out gay in the last few years. I also grew up in a state house and have never for­got­ten where I came from.

FAVOURITE PLACE IN PORIRUA?

The beach at Ngati Toa do­main is a favourite spot. It’s the head of our two har­bours and a mag­nif­i­cent site.

Many tourists in camper­vans recog­nise this but I’m not sure we as lo­cals pay it as much at­ten­tion.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SU­PER POWER WHAT WOULD IT BE?

To be able to in­stantly bring all homes in New Zealand up to cur­rent build­ing stan­dards.
