The big tests are still to come for the Wellington Pride.

Credit to them for beating Hawke’s Bay 42-10, in their Farah Palmer Cup opener at Porirua Park on Saturday, but better teams than the Tuis will determine whether Wellington achieve their stated aim.

‘‘We haven’t spent a lot of time setting goals [but] the goal is to win. I would like to hope semifinal and once you get to the semifinals anything can happen,’’ new Pride coach Ross Bond said.

‘‘We’re not the biggest side in the world; we’re very mobile in the locks and loosie area and trying to play an uptempo, wide game and come away with it in the last 15, 20 [minutes], which we did against Hawke’s Bay.

‘‘There’s still a bit of fitness work to do but, from the first preseason game three weeks ago to this one, there’s been a marked improvement,’’ Bond said.

Loose forward Kiri Mei was strong for Wellington, as was her Wainuiomata clubmate Jackie Patea-Fereti, fullback Reijeli Uluinayau and wing Ayesha Letil’iga.

Next up for the victors is Manawatu at the Petone Recreation Ground.
