‘‘New Zealand band The Black Seeds bring their contemporary groove reggae rhythms.’’

The performing acts for the third Coastella Music Festival at Southward’s Amphitheatre in Paraparaumu on February 17 have just been announced.

The 2018 line-up showcases a variety of local and international acts from energetic folk and indie rock to Japanese banjo music, and from brass to Balkan music.

New Zealand band The Black Seeds bring their contemporary groove reggae rhythms. Singersongwriter Nadia Reid, nominated for an Apra Silver Scrolls Award for her song Richard earlier this year, performs following her UK/ European tour, and the Hot Potato Band use world music influences with an Australian edge to create a sound of brass and drums.

Other international offerings include George and Noriko, with a unique sound of Australian and Japanese banjo blues.

My Baby from Amsterdam perform their roots-driven dance music, and Ireland’s The Young Folk bring a sound compared with Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver and Crosby Stills & Nash.

Australia’s Jordie Lane and the Sleepers play psychedelic rock reminiscent of The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper.

Other New Zealand acts include Louis Baker and his new band playing some funky rhythms sections.

The Mermaidens take a mesmerising dip into the realms of post-punk and psych, and current radio favourites Glass Vaults blend subtle electronics and pulsating percussion. The Frank Burkitt Band draw on influences from folk, jazz, blues, swing, soul and all things American roots, and Neko Ne Zna bring an energetic Balkan Gypsy brass extravaganza. Also, Ka¯piti band Jeep Road will play a mix of contemporary blues and soul.

The After Party features Rhombus in Dub, as well as Olmecha Supreme featuring King Home Boy and Captain Imon Starr.

Coastella includes a main stage set in a natural grassy amphitheatre, as well as a lake stage. The event also sees the return of Tiny Town, a 10-foot shipping container converted into an intimate musical venue, offering a chance to get up close with some of the bands.
