How to give the city centre a makeover
There were lots of good suggestions on Neighbourly when we asked what people would like to see in the city centre. This year, the council will continue with its city revitalisation work and it was interesting to hear what was important to Porirua people. SALA NIMAROTA FROM CANNONS CREEK
It would have been great to bring back Porirua i-site (Information Centre) and is definitely mostly needed in Porirua City Centre.
JENNY GIGG FROM TITAHI BAY
I would really like the carparks reinstated. No-one should be encouraged to sit in the middle of the car fumes to eat their lunch or have a drink.
KARENWARNER FROM WHITBY
Definitely need more good quality restaurants and some boutique shops like they have in Jackson Street, Petone
ANN HOLMES FROM PLIMMERTON
I would like to see a permanent trendy cafe/eating place tastefully designed with an indoor/outdoor feel. Also more greenery/trees in tubs/rock gardens dotted about and interesting seating in between them. Little private spaces! Yes to reinstating Porirua i-site.
CELIA COOMBES FROM PAREMATA
Remove or replace the depressing play area.
MICHAEL PENHEY FROM PUKERUA BAY
I was shocked to see how many empty shops there are now.The area is rapidly becoming a ghetto, a pleasant enough place to be on a fine day, but when the wind blows a place to shun, even the canopies never properly addressed that.
MAUREEN WEINSTEIN FROM AOTEA
I would very much like to have more public toilets as there are only two to cater for the people who shop and visit the Porirua CBD. This is a real urgent request.
PEN-E TITO FROM TITAHI BAY
I would love the idea of the playground to be replaced with a better one! Every time we go through this area a piece of playground gets taken away and now there’s only that round thing. So yes please a new play area would make a big difference! I also think a classy indoor/ outdoor-feel cafe would be a great idea. One a bit more up market than a bakery. Maybe more tables and seating areas as well.
DAVINA TANGAROA FROM CANNONS CREEK
I would like to see the canopies put back.
