New deputy mayor

- JOEL MAXWELL

Kapiti Coast district councillor Janet Holborow has been named the district’s new deputy mayor.

The role would see her help new mayor K Gurunathan in making sure the new council can work together.

After the inauguration on Tuesday night, Holborow said her first job was to support the mayor in what was a ‘‘huge’’ job.

‘‘One of the challenges of the next three years is going to be working together as a council, and bringing everybody together.’’

She said the goal was to have a ‘‘pro- ductive’’ council, with every member of the table coming forward with their aspirations and ideas.

‘‘We’ve got off to a really good start, and we’ve talked about how we’re going to work together, and our expectations of each other.’’

Holborow said she was excited about the new term, which would include the completion of the first section of the Kapiti expressway.

Flood protection work, dealing with coastal erosion, the Kapiti College performing arts centre, and the town centre upgrades, would also feature, she said.

Holborow replaces Mike Cardiff.
