Tyres stolen off family car

- ADAM POULOPOULOS

A Raumati family has woken to find their car missing all its tyres, and sitting on wooden blocks.

Rachel Wilson opened the front gate of her Menin Rd property yesterday to find the tyres had been stolen off the family’s Ford Falcon station wagon.

The car was not broken into, and no other damage was done. Blocks of wood and jacks were left under and beside the car. None of the family of five, nor their dog, heard anything.

Wilson said she believed it was a premeditated theft.

‘‘It was very well planned out. It was done absolutely quietly. They didn’t try to get into the other vehicles at all. It’s quite a public little spot ... they knew what they were doing.’’

Her husband Nik Wilson refurbished the wheels recently. His work vehicle and another car were parked nearby, and left untouched.

Nik Wilson owned Wheel Magician Kapiti. He relacquered and repainted the tyres, and repaired kerb damage.

However, he said the set of four 17-inch wheels was worth about $1500, about the same price as a regular set.

A police spokeswoman said they were aware of the incident but they were not aware of a trend developing in tyre thefts.
