SsangYong drops NZ prices, reduces range

- ROB MAETZIG

SsangYong’s New Zealand distributor has taken the knife to the brand, paring back its model selection to better suit what customers want.

At the same time Great Lake Motor Distributors has also pared back pricing, improving on what were already some of the true value packages of New Zealand motoring.

In addition, the company has introduced longer warranties and an extended roadside assistance package.

"These are very exciting times for SsangYong. Our dealers are in for busy times," saidGLMD managing director Deon Cooper in announcing the changes.

Leading the change is the Korando compact SUV, which has just been facelifted.

Previously there were five models in the range, starting with a 2WD petrol Sport model and topping out with anAWDturbodiesel SPR.

Now the petrol-engined 2WD andAWDversions of the SPR have been dropped, reducing the selection to three - the 2WD Sport, a 2WD petrol Limited, and the AWDdiesel SPR.

Prices have also been reduced with the biggest changes involving the 2WD Sport and Limited which are now priced at $27,990 and $29,990 which are $5000 less than the previous RRPs. The SPR has slipped below the $40,000 mark with a new price of $39,990 which is a $4000 reduction.

The Korando Sport now features a high-resolution reversing camera, front and rear parking aids, and a variety of other upgrades, while the Limited adds daytime running lights as standard specification.

SsangYong’s smallest vehicle, the Tivoli, has also had its price realigned. The entry Tivoli Sport is now priced at $26,990 for the auto version, and the Tivoli Limited now slots in between the two petrol-powered Korando models, at $28,990.

GLMD has dropped the Tivoli XLV, which is a stretched model that offers considerably more load space, due to a lack of customer demand. However it remains available to indent order.

A new Limited Edition 2WD diesel manual Actyon SSR ute has been added to the SsangYong range, the vehicle enhanced with 20-inch alloy wheels and tyres, SSR stripes and decal treatment, along with SSR interior accents. This model retails for $29,990.

GLMD has also announced that all models in the SsangYong range will now receive a five year, 100,000km warranty and five-year roadside assistance package.
