Ka¯piti under-13 basketball success

- STAFF REPORTER

The Ka¯piti Basketball Association’s two under-13 teams have produced the association’s best-ever performance in the age group at regional level.

At Basketball New Zealand’s central regional championships in Hawkes Bay, the Ka¯piti under-13 girls team finished fourth, narrowly losing its semi-final match against Taranaki. Ka¯piti’s under-13 boys team finished seventh.

Association chairman Rob Scriven said both results represented the association’s best-ever performances at the under-13 level.

‘‘What these players have achieved over the last week is a culmination and reward for the commitment they have all shown over the last few months,’’ he said.

‘‘Much good has come out of the week in so many aspects; team work, new friends, and competing with a really high level of sportsmanship. Most of all, seeing our kids excel whilst having fun is very rewarding for us as parents and volunteers.’’

Scriven said that by having a more athlete-centred programme and inclusive environment along with its dedicated volunteers and coaches, more exciting times lay ahead.
