Police dealt with an incident involving stock being worried by two dogs. One of the dogs was captured by the property owner and taken back to the house and shot. Katikati Police Sergeant Steve Hindmarsh said legally this cannot be done.

“If a dog is in the act of attacking stock then it can be destroyed if it can be done safely.

“If the dog is caught and is no longer attacking the stock, then it must either be handed back to the owner if known, or to a dog or stock ranger who will take custody of it and initiate any enquiries to locate the owner and initiate any prosecutio­n.”

Petrol drive off

A petrol drive off has been reported at the Katikati BP service station. The offender has also got away with a packet of tobacco. Police are following a line of enquiry in a different district.

Theft of cash

A 21-year-old Waihi man employed at a Katikati store has been arrested for stealing cash from his employer. He appears in the Tauranga District Court on October 5.

Failing to stop

An Aongatete man has been charged with failing to stop and ascertain injury after a crash on the intersecti­on of SH2 and Esdaile Road on September 3. The 52-year-old appears in the Tauranga District Court on October 5.

Warrant breach

Last Thursday September

20 a 25-year-old Katikati man was arrested on an arrest warrant for breaching prison release conditions. He has appeared in court.

That same day a 24-yearold Whakamaram­a man was arrested on an arrest warrant relating to a fraud charge.

He also has appeared in court.

Drugs haul

A number of cannabis plants, cannabis plant material and a rifle were seized from a Tuapiro address after a police search on September 12.

As a result a 75-year-old local man has been charged with cultivatin­g cannabis, possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of a firearm. He appeared in the Tauranga District Court on September 21.

Wallet theft

A 30-year-old Katikati man has been charged with theft after taking a wallet which a customer had left on a service station counter.

And five teenagers have been referred to Police Youth Aid after shopliftin­g minor items from a local superette.

All have made personal apologies to the store owner.

Drink driver

A 39-year-old Katikati man was charged with drinking and driving after a complaint was received in relation to the way the vehicle was being driven on SH2, on September 14.
