Pool to open for summer season
Summer is around the corner and the Dave Hume heated swimming pool complex will open this Sunday for the season.
Both pools are heated by tap water heated from a hot water bore, with the main pool about 26 to 27 degrees. The smaller pool is generally between 29 and 32 degrees depending on the weather, said pool manager Peter Allsop.
During the school holidays the pool will be open from 6am to 6pm. Lane swimmers and lane walkers can still do workouts from 6am to 9am, and from 9am there will still be a lane or two open for them. In school terms, the pool will be open from 6am to 9am for lane swimmers and lane walkers and then from 11am to 6pm. However, the schools use of the pool means the times available for public use varies between 11am and 3pm.
Peter said when the main pool is being used by a school, the learners pool is not available for the public.
For those with disabilities there are large steps which can be put into the pool to help them into and out of the main pool.
“Just ask the staff to put them in for you.”
Learn to swim lessons are provided exclusively by Evolution Aquatics. All inquiries and expressions of interest to Tania Snookes at osc4swim@gmail.com. No other paid coaching will be permitted at the pool.
The Dave Hume pool is an excellent place to picnic or have birthday parties, with a grass bank and trees for shade and of course the inviting pool of water to play in. There’s also an electric barbecue that can be hired for $5/hot plate.
