Netball juniors shine

Four junior netball teams, 7A, 7B, 8A and 8B played in the annual Whangamata¯ Area Netball Tournament on August 1 this term.

They battled against schools from the surroundin­g Waihi area. The day was a huge success with 7A crowned champions of the Year 7 division and 7B runner up and 8A also took out the Year 8 division. Well done to the players, coaches, teachers and student umpires.

Congratula­tions also to the Developmen­t 2 netball team — Angel Apaapa, Olivia Astwood, Scarlett Baddeley, Emily Davison, Maia Harvey, Ella Holten, Jadah Mackay, Shawna Rae, Anica Raitak and Jemma Shaw — who had a terrific season coached by Alana White and Caitlin Thorburn and sponsored by The Honey Shed and Caravans4U. They battled their way up the leagues to make the final and had a nail-biter against Tauranga Girl’s College (TGC) Blue to take the win. Also to Katikati College Gold — Olivia Brooks, Aya Metcalfe, Rosie Morrissey, Paris Nelson, Charkiah Redden, Skye Smith, Emily Snowball-Boyes, Caitlin Thorburn, Alana White — who won the Reserve 2 division also beating TGC for the title.

AIMS Games over for 2018

Translated this means — congratula­tions to all our athletes who entered the AIMS sports competitio­n earlier this month. We have seen the commitment, dedication and sportsmans­hip, the memories created will be held close to the heart. We at Katikati College sit proudly in the light of all you have achieved. Every win has been an achievemen­t and every loss a lesson in/ for improvemen­t. Well done to all of our students.

KKC participat­ed in 11 different codes across Tauranga and Mount Maunganui.

The final placings were — basketball

64th from 72, boy’s football 49th from 64, futsal 25th= from 44, girl’s football 28th from 35, hockey 26th from 56, netball 93rd from 122, rugby 31st from 42.

Badminton — Taurian McConnachi­e was 23rd in division 2, 5th in doubles division 5; BMX — Eden Pointon was 9th in time trial and 8th in racing; Squash — Hamish Tanner was 53rd and Jessica Taylor 25th; Indoor Bowls — Kasey Marlow, Brianna Judge-Brown, Jack Bryan and Quentin Pearson. Indoor Bowls doubles — Marlow/Judge-Brown, Pearson/Bryan. Cross Country — ZongYu Hsieh 181 from 183, Benji Arundel 117 from 183, Matthew Graney 172 from 183, Destinee Benge 73 from 164, Rose Swain

Past vs present

The annual Past vs Present is this Saturday, September 29 at Katikati College competing for the Past vs Present cup. Just turn up as the teams will need the subs! Unfortunat­ely no Past football girls this year. Times are: 10am — rugby (rugby field), boys football (field 1), girl’s hockey (turf), netball (court 1), boy’s volleyball (Meads gym); 11.30am — boy’s hockey (turf), boy’s basketball (Action Centre), girl’s volleyball (Meads gym).
