Lodge supports local school

-

Katikati Freemasons have taken pride in being able to offer some support to our local school.

The Lodge invited the staff to join them for afternoon tea to establish a closer tie with the school.

“We are neighbours but we realised that, although we knew about the teachers’ role, they knew very little about us,” said Lodge spokesman John Barker. “It was wonderful to have such a large group of teachers accept the invitation. The staff were admitted into the Lodge where they were able to ask questions about the Lodge and how it operates.

To celebrate the occasion the Lodge presented principal Andrea Nicholson with a cheque for $1000 to assist children with learning needs. Lodge almoner Patrick Dunn made the presentation and in reply the principal expressed thanks.

She said, “At Katikati School, working with our community is very important to us, and we were very grateful to the Katikati Freemasons when they approached us asking how they could help to support our children. This cheque will go towards special needs education at the school.

“We try to personalise learning as much as we can for our children so use a variety of internet programmes to accelerate the children’s progress in literacy and numeracy. The site licences become very expensive but we have seen the positive results these programmes achieve as they target individual needs. We will be using the money to pay for some of these programmes. Thank you Katikati Freemasons for your generosity.”
