FIRE REPORT

- By Kristin Crockett

A busy week for the Katikati Volunteer Fire Brigade began with three calls last Tuesday.

First was a call from St John to a cardiac arrest, followed by a car crash on SH2 near Songbird Learning Centre at Aongetete, and later that evening to a car rollover on Middlebrook Drive.

On Wednesday two calls to alarms sounding at St Paul’s Church, also to a backyard fire causing a nuisance, followed that evening by a car fire near Morton Rd. Then last Thursday was a call to an alarm activation at Seeka Aongetete.

On Saturday evening, the brigade was called to an alarm activation at Claymark Mill but no fire was found. On Monday morning it attended another alarm at Pahoia School, set off by workers. That evening, the brigade attended a crash on SH2 100m north of Willoughby Rd. A car and a people-mover collided after a vehicle lost control and crossed the centreline. One driver had to be cut out. The TECT rescue helicopter attended but due to safety issues was unable to fly the patient to Hamilton so the patient was sent via ambulance. —
