Stags go down in close one

- Mike Pedersen

The Katikati Stags senior rugby team travelled to Greerton for their second game of the season, looking to improve on last week’s effort.

With a number of injuries picked up last week, the squad was low on numbers and struggled to get a full team together which meant the game had to go to Golden Oldies scrums.

The teams were fairly evenly matched trading try for try throughout the game and, with five minutes to go, Greerton crashed over for a converted try to take the lead.

Katikati had a chance to score on the last play but turned over the ball, the final score was 32-30 to Greerton.

Player of the day went to team manager Caleb Williams, who threw the boots on for the first time for a number of years to help the team out.

The team would like to thank its major sponsor, Mpac.

This week the Katikati Stags are back at home to play Te Puna, with kickoff at 2.30pm.
