Indoor: Wednesday, July 8 saw qualifying rounds played in the Katikati Indoor Bowls championsh­ip pairs. This week sees Betty Sugden and Di Sharp play Neal Mikkelsen and Chris Sherriff. The winner will advance to the semifinal where they will play Keith Hands and Phil Green. The other semifinal will be between Ross Stewart and Bruce Plumber who will play Wayne Gamble and John Gilmore.

In a play off competitio­n the previous week to find the winner of the championsh­ip triples each of the qualifying teams recorded one win. The tie break system was then applied. Firstly ends won, this left two teams still tied, so total points scored decided the winner. The winners by two points was the team of Bruce Lannam, Eric Harrison and Chris Sherriff. Ross Baird, Bruce Plumber and Elsie Gribben were runners-up.

Women’s 18 Hole: It was cool on Saturday, July 4 for the ladies field to play BOP Stableford and Haggle, and the Putting Cup second round. Stableford results: Sharon Deacon 38 points; Phillipa Harvey 37; Jackie Robson 36; Jackie Bain 35; Shoneen Dunning, Desley Rosevear, Karen Roche, Liz Hale 34; Carol Leary, Susie Goodall 33; Gay Bainbridge, Kathy Ashton 32; Robyn Kirby 30. Hidden Holes: Phillipa Harvey, Liz Hale — 8 points each.

■ Wednesday, July 8 was cold with gales and showers.

Eight turned up to play, but before long most called it a day in the unpleasant conditions. However, one player was having her last game prior to knee surgery and pleaded with her playing partner to finish the 18 holes. Katikati Dreamers Player of the Week: Sharon Deacon.

Veterans

There were 34 players on Monday, July 5 for the fourth nett medal round, and for nine holes it was cloudy, but then it rained. Some called it a day and there were no outstandin­g scores.
