Several arrests made for disorder outside tavern

People need to take note that if they seesomeone getting arrested, that it is not their role to assist that person to be unarrested or obstruct the police.

If youdo, thenyou are likely to be arrested as well and you willmakean appearance before the courts and endup with a conviction or conviction­s. Youmaynot even be arrested on the night for such offending if our hands are full, butwewill catchupwit­h you in the following days.

Drink responsibl­y and act responsibl­y and youwon’t attract the attention of the law.

Shortly after midnighton Friday a twoperson police patrolcame­across disorder outside a tavern in Katikati. While trying to arrest an aggressive person anumberof associates have interfered and a patrol car wasdamaged­and pepper spray wasdeploye­d. A windowat the tavernwasa­lso broken.

Extra staff were called in from Tauranga and several arrests weremade— a 21-yearold Katikatima­nfor disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence, obstructio­n and resisting arrest; a 20-year-old Tahawaiman­for obstructio­n; a 19-year-old Katikatima­nfor wilful damage, disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence and fighting; a 20-year-old Katikatima­nfor assault on police, wilful damageand obstructin­g police; a 19-year-old Katikati manfor assaulting police, resisting arrest, obstructio­n and wilful damage.

A34-year-old road worker working on site on SH2 near TurnerRdla­st Thursday eveningwas­seriously injured after being struck by awhite Ford Ranger vehicle. This followed a dispute with the driver over hismannero­f driving. The road workerwas admitted to the Tauranga Hospital ICU where he remains in a serious condition. A 27-year-old Bethlehemm­an has been charged with wounding with reckless disregard, and failing to stop and ascertain injury. Heis to appear in the Tauranga District Court today.

OnSunday evening an upper WalfordRdr­esident reported arrivingho­meand disturbing aman breaking into a bus on the property. There wasa tussle and the offender has presented a knife and swungit at the resident before running off.

Wewould like to hear of any suspicious activity in the area between 9 and10pmon Sunday.

■ Last Wednesday, November11 an 18-year-old Katikatiwo­manwas charged with wilfuldama­ge after a car windowwasb­roken in Katikati.

An18-year-oldThamesm­an wasstopped by police driving a vehicle lastWednes­day afternoon. Thiswas due to complaints about hismanner of driving about the township.

Hehas subsequent­ly been charged with drivingwit­h excess breath alcohol after a readingmor­e than three times the legal limit.
