Katikati experiencednewgrowth withnewhouses being constructed andnewarrivals to town. The Katikati Lions Club membership peaked at 79.
Sara Patrick becamethe clubs third District Governor andwas installed into this position at Busan, South Korea, in 2012.
KayStanbury becametheir third female president in 2012/13 and Margaret Gunterwas the fourth in 2017/18.
2017wasLions Internationals’ 100th birthday and the International Conventionwasheld in its birthplace Chicago. Virginiamanaged to get her photo on the cover of The Lion magazine, carrying, with others, the NewZealand banner.
The annual Steptoe Auction evolved from all out “chaos” with five simultaneous auctions, to a garage sale format and one auction for selected goods only, to monthly garage sales in the specially purchased and outfitted containers. The monthly sales, organised initially as a trial, have proven their worth and arenowwell established in the community.
The club took over the running of Moggies Market in 2011/12 and this is also run monthly, in the Katikati Memorial Hall.
The Pakeke Club had started their “Fun Fest” in January2004 which becamea great success and grew bigger and moreambitious, morphing into the Avocado, Wineand Food Festival. In 2013wejoined forces and itbecame a joint activity.
Nonewmajor projects have been
added to the Lions busy schedule, apart from inheriting the hanging baskets project in town, from the Pakeke Club, but they have continued to helpmany organisations, teams and individuals.
Twonewsponsorships have been for the Western BayMuseumfor
special group sessions for primary school students and for a Senior Citizens discount admission for the weekly movies at the Junction Theatre.
The annual Directory has continued as a very professional publication.
The club’s social side has been enhanced with fifth Tuesday Pot Luck dinners and monthly morning tea gatherings.
Nowthe countdown is on to the Katikati Lions Club’s 50th anniversary celebration this weekend.
